Program Notes
A Play of Shadows represents an attempt to mirror flutist Ransom Wilson’s dramatic and compelling musical personality. ‘Sanctuary ... / deep forests, / a play of shadows ...’ is the haiku-like beginning of a brief epigraph the composer wrote in the score, and the music’s blend of repose and airy brilliance capture this image in sound.
